The existing bathhouse building at the Charles J. Cook Recreation Center houses public restrooms, lifeguard locker rooms, and the snack bar for the public swim- ming pool. Orignially constructed in 1963, with renovations in the 1990s, the facil- ity serves and average of 21,500 attendees and 9,200 day campers each season, or about 800 patrons per day. The building is well beyond its useful life and barely ADA compliant.
BDS and our team were engaged to design a new bathhouse facility complex including a public shower/toilet building; a lifeguard and administrative build- ing; and a check-in/snack bar building. BDS is working closely with the Town and pool facility administrators to design a complex that is efficient and cost effective. The design includes durable construction materials, storm water rain gardens, skylights, and passive ventilation systems intended for the complex to serve the public well into the future.
